painting as portal
— a practice of (re)Remembering, Listening, and Becoming

painting as portal is an invitation to paint beyond certainty.

together we will explore painting as a practice of listening, (re)Remembering, and (re)Imagining. through intuitive painting exercises, writing prompts, and guided reflection, participants will be encouraged to let go of fixed outcomes and follow Intuition instead. rather than beginning with a plan, we will make space for images, symbols, Memories, and emotions to emerge through the process itself.

drawing from Dreams, personal histories, Collective Memory, and possible Futures, the workshop approaches painting as more than image-making. it becomes a way of accessing forms of Knowledge that exist beyond language — a space where Intuition, Imagination, and curiosity can lead the way. What happens when we stop trying to control the image and instead enter into a conversation with it? What emerges when we allow the unknown to guide us?

jahi quasim reeberg is an Afropean visual storyteller, researcher, writer, Afro-futurist, time traveler, archivist, and painter. Their practice unfolds as a visual diary – a fusion of color, language, reflection and dialogue. Rooted in cultural and spiritual identity, anti-colonial theory, and the practice of Imagining Otherwise, their work moves beyond individualism toward holding space for liberatory praxis and collective consciousness.

Through immersive and vibrant paintings, jahi invites viewers to engage with Black, trans and queer spiritualities as living legacies. By returning to his ancestors and cultural roots, the connect histories, geographies, and stories in urgent, embodied ways. Their art opens space for others to share knowledge, memory, and imagination, contributing to ongoing processes of structural and cultural transformation.

Black, trans n queer people to the front!! (but open to all ofc). Limited free slots for black, trans n queer people; if you do not have the financial means to participate in the workshop email fatmata@nowhere.nl and we will figure something out.
