This August, join our extended house dance class 1,5 hours each week, hosted by a different member of our community. It’s an open-level class, meaning both beginners and intermediate dancers are welcome; the teacher will accommodate all levels. Expect a mix of technique-focused work and freestyle. For more experienced dancers, we’re also opening the doors to our lab, hosted by the same teacher. The lab isn’t a structured class rather, but rather a facilitated dance practice.

Tightly connected to house music, house dance emerged in Chicago and New York club scenes in the 1980s as liberating spaces for marginalized communities – mainly Black, Latino, and LGBTQ. Its vocabulary draws from African dance forms, tap, jazz, martial arts, latin dances, and more, and centers on freedom of expression. House is not just a technique; it is a social and cultural practice rooted in collective liberating experience.

Patty is a Czech dancer, teacher, and cultural curator exploring the intersection of club dance styles, research, and community. Since 2019, she has curated the Amsterdam House Dance Community where she facilitates jams, classes and labs for dancers and music lovers. In her classes she aims to create safe(r) space to make mistakes and reflect.
