Gia Tinh Lam is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the intersection of art direction, moving image, and audiovisual storytelling. In 2024, she began shaping her personal projects under ‘Self Service’, a year-long series of projects that serve as a vessel for transforming her inner world into tangible expressions. This initiative not only documents her evolving artistic journey, but also serves as a tool for self-exploration and reflection, capturing the beauty of becoming over the pursuit of perfection. Viewing each project as a stepping stone to the next allows Gia Tinh to freely grow into her artistry, while deepening her connection to self at the same time.
During her time at Nowhere, Gia Tinh will delve into her ancestral lineage across multiple generations. Through research into the histories of displacement within her family, she examines the intergenerational impact of (forced) migration. ‘Alchemising the Sound of Displacement’ is planned to be presented as an audiovisual exploration that transforms these intimate powerful themes into a sensory experience.
